Bachman Indoor Pool is Temporarily Closed

The indoor pool has been closed multiple times over the past 3 years due to serious mechanical and safety issues, not budget related.

In late 2023, large ceiling pipes fell into the seating area due to rusted supports.
HVAC failures followed, requiring a full system overhaul.
Repairs are underway, with reopening expected in late November.

Dallas Aquatics is eager to resume programming and welcome everyone back to Bachman Indoor Pool.

Repairs to the pool HVAC unit have been completed; however, electrical upgrades at the recreation center will cause are needed.This will cause the power to the Recreatin Center to be out for a period in March, currently planned for 3/16 to 3/22. We anticipate reopening in late March after the electrical upgrades have been completed and tested.

On 11/21/25, a preconstruction meeting between Park and Recreation (PKR) staff and the HVAC contractor, Metco Engineering, was held. During this meeting an unforeseen obstruction was discovered in front of the outdoor unit. PKR requested a change order proposal from the contractor so that work could continue, avoiding the obstruction. PKR staff is currently routing the change order paperwork for approval.


On 12/1/25, Metco started work onsite and began installing the indoor air handler unit.


On 12/2/25, the indoor unit was set in place.


On 12/3/2025, Park and Rec staff conducted a project walkthrough to observe the new unit in place. Metco stated that the work to connect the ducts, piping and wiring to the new unit will take an estimated 2-3 weeks to complete.


On 12/5/2025, the gym can be reopened and Metco plans to patch the wall. Project completion is still on track for early January.

The schedule of work provided by the contractor has been updated. The work on site is now slated to begin on November 27, with an anticipated completion date in early January 2026.
